Maybe you've heard the statistics, maybe you haven't...
Millions of people are sexually exploited every year, most of them women and children.
It's odd for an engineer to say but, I don't like the statistics - at least not in this area. They make it too easy to ignore or forget about the fact the every single victim of sexual slavery is an individual.
A real person. Loved by God.
Known by Him before they were born.
In physical, emotional and spiritual pain that many of us can't even imagine.
It's daunting to realize that in just over a week, I will be in Cambodia as part of an eMi team working towards ending sexual exploitation.
In Cambodia, this tragedy has been magnified by the country's painful history. War and genocide have resulted in unresolved pain and anger, poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence and a rebuilding legal system struggling to enforce its own laws. These issues all contribute to perpetuating the sex trade.
Ratanak International is working to end exploitation in Cambodia in three areas: Prevention, Rehabilitation and Reintegration. They have started the RAP reintegration program to help rehabilitated survivors become independent, functioning, contributing members of society with a knowledge and appreciation of Jesus' love for them. (To read more about this program, please click here)
Our eMi team will spend over a week in the capital of Phnom Penh, working closely with Ratanak to design a new RAP community home. It's an amazing opportunity to help spread God's love and healing to the many women who will live in this home in the coming years.
We have some prayer requests as I join this project trip:
Please pray for...
Ratanak International and their leadership
Protection for our family leading up to the trip
The team's safety, health and unity on the trip
Liz and Asher as they stay home without me
Finally, I also ask that you pray about supporting our ministry with eMi. This support will allow me to help design more projects like this one. If you feel God calling you to do so, please click here and select "DONATE to this staff member" at the top right corner of the page.
I look forward to sharing more with you when I get back!
