I want to start this newsletter off with an apology. I'm sorry...
I haven't been very good at keeping you up-to-date lately. No excuses here...but there is a silver lining - there is just SO MUCH GOING ON!!
I've been working day and night (often literally) on design documents and reports for my last two projects, both in Haiti:
Grand Goâve, Haiti - Haiti ARISE
Plans are nearly complete for a birthing center, auto body shop, welcome center, and church. The rendering above, showing a view of the proposed birthing center, was produced by our design team.
Cap Haïtien, Haiti - Live Different
Plans are nearly complete for The Freedom Center - a transition home for restavek girls who have been rescued from very desperate, abusive situations. The above rendering shows the site plan on the incredibly steep mountainside site.
You can read more about these projects on our blog
Some of my previous projects are constructed and opening!
It is always exciting to see the mission God has blessed us with come to fruition. Recently, I've received updates for two projects: the children's village in Guatemala (with Impact Ministries) and the reintegration home in Cambodia (with Ratanak International)...
Tactic, Guatemala - Children's Home - Impact Ministries
Impact Ministries has completed construction on Phase 1 - the baby house - for their children's village in Tactic, Guatemala. They are now waiting for government approval so they can officially open (they will be taking in babies that are found abandoned by their parents at the local hospital). Hector and his wife Ericka (pictured above in front of the baby house) have moved in and are ready to accept the first child!
Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Ratanak International - Space for Hope
Ratanak International recently held the grand opening for their "Space for Hope" - a building in urban Phnom Penh that will be a re-integration home for young trafficked women, as well as administration space for Ratanak programs (for security reasons, I can't share any full photos of the building. The above photo is from Ratanak's Facebook page and shows a glimpse of the top of the building).
As you likely already know, Liz and I are expecting our third child (it's a girl!!!!), due in a couple of months. We would appreciate your prayers for Liz and the baby.
This means that I won't be traveling anywhere with EMI until next summer. In the meantime, I'll be putting the finishing touches on the Haiti projects, working with our amazing interns, and doing some graphics/video work for EMI Canada (though that list is hardly exhaustive).
I do want to take a moment to invite you to our dessert evening and silent auction. If you're in/around Calgary on November 3rd, please join us! The evening will include dessert/refreshments, engaging presentations, and a silent auction. Get up to speed on what EMI has been up to recently, learn about how EMI partners with other ministries, and catch the vision for building the Kingdom of God and delivering hope through good design.
There's a ton more going on here at EMI Canada, but I don't want to overload you with too much information! Thanks so much for your prayers, support, and encouragement! Until next time (I promise it won't be so long), God bless!
